Dr. Daniel Lichter is director of the Cornell Population Center and the Ferris Family Professor in policy analysis & management and sociology at Cornell University and a Carsey Senior Fellow. Much of his research has focused on spatial patterns of economic opportunity and inequality, especially in rural communities and regions such as Appalachia and the so-called Black Belt. He also has evaluated the implications of welfare reform and “healthy marriage” initiatives on the family, marriage and cohabitation, and children’s changing living arrangements.
