Former Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan State Representative Trial

Former Speaker of the Michigan House and State Representative Lee Chatfield (House District 107, R, served 2015-2021) and his wife are spending lots of time in court these days. Chatfield represented the eastern Upper Peninsula and parts of Northern Michigan. He hails from Emmet County.

The court is holding preliminary exams to “determine whether he and his wife will face felony trial on corruption charges alleging they used political funds to maintain a lavish lifestyle.” (Bridge). He was also accused of having a long standing affair with his sister in law, but the Attorney General did not proceed with that prosecution. Chatfield is a former teacher at his father’s Christian school in northern Michigan.

NMU Mens Basketball Wins GLIAC for Second Time in Three Years

The NMU Men’s Basketball team defeated Michigan Tech 69-68 on Saturday, and defeated LSSU 78-63 on Sunday to win the GLIAC championship. NMU now gets an automatic bid into the Division 2 NCAA national tournament. Congrats NMU!

New Nickel Site Found in Upper Peninsula

This site was found about eight miles from the Eagle Nickel Mine site. It was discovered by Talon Metals Corp which is a company incorporated in Minnesota. The Talon Metals Corp is said to have a good sized contract with Tesla Inc., owned by you know who.

Speaking of Tesla:

We have all seen news reports about large demonstrations at Tesla dealerships around the country. Also reports of Tesla car owners selling their Teslas to demonstrate their displeasure with Tesla Corporation owner Elon Musk. Some reports of vandalism to Teslas that are parked on streets. Not heard any UP reports of UP Tesla owners dumping their cars in opposition to Elon Musk stuff. If you have any information or reports on activity with Teslas in the UP let us know.

United States DOGE to Close Some UP Sites

DOGE has announced that three sites with federal leases will be closed in Baraga, Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie. More to come? Let us know what you hear.

“The court is holding preliminary exams to “determine whether he and his wife will face felony trial on corruption charges “

Your quote turns your headlight into an error. As of now there is no trial.

‘…owned by you know who.’ Your bias is showing.

DOGE is an unconstitutional power grab by Musk and Trump, both of whom appear to Russian assets, weakening the entire federal government without any Congressional action. Every American should be greatly concerned not only about their tyranny, but the Republican party’s failure to provide any check against this usurpation of power. It’s worth remembering that the GOP was caught accepting laundered Russian money through campaign donations to the NRA in 2016. Trump and DOGE are causing us to lose allies, undermining national security (8% Department of Defense cuts a year over 5 years = 33% cuts) and military readiness, and undermining our economy. We are quickly becoming a pariah nation on the global stage.

As a federal employee not only am I at risk of losing my job, but the impact that has on my ability to fund work at my farm in Alger County, hire contractors, purchase supplies, also gets undermined. The figure banded about is that for every federal job lost, there’s another four contractor jobs lost. If I lose the conservation contracts I receive from USDA, that will directly impact Alger County’s economy through ripple effects.

You are right my Friend. DOGE is shameful. Sure, there is federal fraud out there (don’t get me started … lol).
It is horrible to blatantly wield a chainsaw rather than scalpel to weed out the fraud, double dipping, and unnecessary waste. We here in Alger County and other small communities need more support now than ever, not less. The impacts on our farmers will be devastating – and the ripple effect will impact all of us.
