Congratulations to LSSU

This month, Lake Superior State University is hosting a robot competition created by high school students across Michigan. These students will pit their industrial-sized robots in a game conducted against each other.

This competition is an opportunity for students to experience the field of robotics. It is a huge opportunity for high school students. Oh yes, LSSU has various degree opportunities in the field of robotics.

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Gives Grant to Houghton and Keweenaw

The agency is distributing $2 million in state grants to 13 nonprofit organizations that support homeless veterans and their families across Michigan.

A nonprofit organization in Houghton/Keweenaw was one of those selected.

“The Soldier Salvation will establish a four-unit veterans transitional complex for Houghton and Keweenaw counties. The grant will fund six phases of the project, including deed recording, ownership transfer, electrical upgrades, building upgrades, appliances, etc.”

Weed Funds to Flow to Local Governments

Around $87 million in funds from recreational marijuana sales are going to flow to the treasuries of county and municipal governments throughout Michigan.

“Counties, cities and other municipalities that are eligible for the payments will receive just over $59,000 per licensed marijuana business.”

How much weed money will your community get? Depends on how many weed licensees are in your community.

From the World Around Us

So many of us are watching as the US Presidential primaries wind up and are barraged with political ads and television pundits telling us what they think the state of the race is and what the polls say.

We read an interesting observation by a national political operative with decades of experience, Doug Sosnik, who pointed out that the next three or four months of the presidential race are crucial.

He says the Spring is when American voters make their minds up about who they will vote for in November. By Memorial Day in May most voters have settled in to their candidate and their vote.

Let all the pundits talk, but let Americans take it all in and make their minds up by May. It takes time. We can all take a breath and let the campaigns do their thing and the pundits talk.

Correction

Last week in our report on the Aspirus-owned hospital in Ontonagon closing, we said it was being closed by the Aspirus Health Plan. We should have said it was being closed by Aspirus Health.

Quotes

“Politics used to be the art of the possible. Now it’s the art of the impossible. Meaning, let’s put forward proposals that can’t possibly pass so we can say to our respective bases: look how I’m fighting for us.” U.S. Senator Mitt Romney, R, Utah.

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Abraham Lincoln.

I’m glad to see the spotlight on FIRST robotics. This past weekend Escanaba High School hosted the week 2 event. This is a major undertaking and coordinated by local robotics teams and support members. http://www.firstinspires.org gives so many kids opportunities for growth and advancement in the fields of STEAM. I am proud to be a mentor and supporter of the FIRST initiatives.

plenty to be concerned with in the upcoming presidential election … 4 more years of this administration and we won’t have a country or a constitution left to worry about… like it or not there is only one choice to make here … tyrants or conservatives… if one is actually paying attention you will find that everything joe was screaming about in the state of the union that the other guy is doing .. well … it’s exactly what he IS doing … all in washington took an oath to uphold the law and the constitution … what we see is anything but that .. what we should be asking is why are they going to the n’th degree to destroy mr trump do they have something to hide… or are they afraid he will put a stop to “ the total transformation of america “ as mr obama exclaimed… yes we will decide the future of america in the next election
